Actress ensures crown for daughter in Bb. Pilipinas 2013?

Actress Sandy Andolong

Now Bb. Pilipinas 2013 coronation night is just one day away, fans have never ceased speculating. What was seen during the Bb. Pilipinas 2013 fashion show at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, must have raised a lot of eyebrows. That's if the observer who tattled about actress Sandy Andolong's beso-beso with the pageant's chairwoman Stella Araneta was telling the truth. The actress is the mother of Candidate #31 Maria Angelica "Mariel" de Leon, who is now rumored to succeed Janine Tugonon's throne- Bb. Pilipinas Universe- provided this speculation I'm discussing.

The observer also claimed that Mariel was given special treatment by Mrs. Araneta during the show. The chairwoman indiscreetly applauded Mariel when she walked the ramp with sheer confidence.

Both the gestures of the two women, if were really displayed by them, at the event have now fueled claims that the pageant results on April 14 are now orchestrated. Would be devastating for the non-Mariel de Leon fans!

Andolong once tweeted blasting critics of her daughter the other day. Mariel has been receiving inflammatory remarks on her physique since the pageant kicked off. Trolls can't help, but blatantly call her things like she does not deserve to compete. A bad experience of a daughter a mother like Sandy can't take. As a mother, she has and will always retaliate anyone who badmouths about her daughter.

Now the issue has spread like wildfire on pageant forums, bashers hate Mariel even more and worst if she wins the top plum in the actual pageant.

In my own opinion, a stage mother or a parent who has a child competing in any contest should not make any gesture or any contact with the organizer/s. Because it could be construed as something suspicious. Despite that, can we blame Andolong as an educated woman? Perhaps, in her case, if she really did that, the actress didn't come to think of it as something negative. Maybe, she just wanted to show respect to the woman who has produced a number of international beauty titlists in the country.

As for the special treatment, I have no comment.

Pageant Rumor and the Favorites

Rumor has it that there were some of the competitors in Bb. Pilipinas 2013 allegedly received a call from Madame Stella Marquez, the pageant's chairwoman, in the run-up to the pageant night. Thus, those who received a call from Madame will be crowned. According to observers, this happened before. This has been the talk in Missosology's forum. I don't want to believe this gossip as there are no proofs, but if those girls mentioned (whose names I prefer not to drop here) win the three titles, then I would probably believe it.

Although those girls seem to rise to the occasion, there are some who are worthy of my praise. Most of them are the favorites among pageant followers. Some are not though. On my list, they are the best so far.

First up is Mutya Datul. The name alone screams beauty queen! This girl didn't get my attention during the screening process. But as the pageant progresses, she has come across as someone who came out of nowhere gaining a spot on my list. Her swimsuit performance during the press presentation at Shangri-La Hotel, Manila on March 18 wowed me and lots of fans. With that killer body and great walk, I won't be surprised if she bags the Best in Swimsuit award come final night. My concern is her communication skills. Kinda disappointed in her in the particular department.

This morena, taller version of actress Jewel Mische is too hard to go unnoticed. With another queenly name, Charmaine Elima has gorgeous cheekbones! This physical attribute is what I have always been looking for in a Filipina beauty queen like Abbygale Arenas and Venus Raj. She's smart ala Shamcey Supsup! She just graduated cum laude at Sienna College on March 23. Beauty and brains indeed! I'm not quite sure about her height, but she does look not that tall. Well, the reigning Miss Universe is just 5'5". So this girl has a big chance of winning the ticket to the Miss Universe competition.

She is perhaps my most favorite simply because of her eccentric appeal. She is to me a cross between Tetchie Agbayani and Miriam Quiambao. I do think she could do very well in the Miss Universe pageant. Provided that she's tall, has a well-toned bod and good communication skills, she can rock the Universe!

Pia Wurtzbach is perhaps the most hyped up candidate this year. This 5'8" lass, who has been a talent of ABS-CBN with the screen name Pia Romero, could surely do well in both Miss Universe and Miss International pageants. She looks vibrant and personable. These qualities have been the trend in Miss Universe since Ximena Navarette won.

Next on the list is Sofia Mustonen, a half Finnish. This beauty is underrated. Perhaps, nobody has seen her potential except me. She has different looks and that's I think her best quality. She could even pull off a Cynthia Olavarria one. But I do think she can be a serious threat to the frontrunners.

Last but not the least is Lourenz Grace Remetillo who is a pageant veteran. She has joined and won local pageants before. She was even crowned Miss Supranational Philippines 2011. I've seen this lass in the flesh many times. She's tall and a ramp diva! If she makes the top 10, good luck to the frontrunners! She can sport different looks as well. She maybe underestimated by many fans, but this lass is a serious threat to the hyped up ones.

Bb. Pilipinas' Golden Anniversary With A Huge Revamp?

Although the logo states 50 beautiful years, Bb. Pilipinas has had its fair share of appalling losses with a number of years seeing Philippines unplaced in the three international pageants to which the organization has been sending delegates. Yes, Philippines' 10-year drought in the Miss Universe pageant was a nightmare and unforgivable for pageant fans. We didn't place for one decade after Miriam Quiambao was hailed first runner-up in Trinidad & Tobago. Who could forget that sweet victory-to-bitter-losses experience? Despite those pageant trials, there's still a reason to celebrate 50 beautiful years.

Philippines has been in the limelight these past few years. It was because of its three consecutive top five placements at Miss Universe from 2010 to 2012, a first runner-up finish at Miss World 2010 and victories in male pageants. Not to mention the Miss Tourism International title last year. These would be enough to put Philippines back on the list of the powerhouse nations in international pageants.

With Philippines' success at Miss Universe for three years in a row, we can't afford to lose this time. First, we had Venus Raj putting the Philippines' name back on the pageant map with her 4th runner-up feat. The following year, Shamcey Supsup didn't fail us landing in the fourth place. Last year, Janine Tugonon almost brought home the highly coveted crown. She would have been the country's third Miss Universe. This time, the would-be chosen rep should be better than her predecessor!

This year, Bb. Pilipinas organizers have named 50 beautiful official candidates from across the country to mark the 50th anniversary of the most prestigious beauty pageant in the archipelago. Well, in the first place, did they have to have a roster of that number? Honestly, some of those girls are just fillers. Too raw to compete in a big national pageant.

There are speculations that this year's format will be something that has never been seen before. We will see a not traditional Bb. Pilipinas coronation night. Fans will see a new presentation from the beginning of the show till the finale. Hmmm...how will they stage the swimsuit round? What could the evening gown segment look like? Will there be another blunders in the final question? I also heard from a friend that, from 50, the candidates will be narrowed down to 20 for swimsuits, then to 10 for evening gowns and to five for the final interviews. This format was once used by Miss Universe pageant way back in 2006. I can't wait to see the whole show anymore! It will be exciting if the speculations are true.

Along with that excitement, I am looking forward to see who are gonna be named Miss AVON, Miss Philippine Airlines, Miss Sun Silk, and Miss PONDS. These are sponsor awards that have inhabited the pageant's finals night. And I can't afford to forget them coz I've seen them given to deserving candidates year after year. So good luck to those who are chosen to be named with these awards aside from the major titles!
